Starting school is one thing; staying there is another. In Shivaji Nagar — one of Mumbai's most deprived settlements — children face pressures that can pull them out of education long before they finish: family income, early marriage, caring responsibilities, or simply the daily grind of life without basic services.
Apnalaya's answer is to work through the community itself. Local people are trained as community workers who transform their own neighbourhoods, with education and citizenship at the centre — so that change doesn't arrive from outside, it grows from within and stays.
