What we do
-
Child Action was set up by Seema Sharma (nee Bahal) after visiting Mumbai to star in Channel 4's only overseas episode of Secret Millionaire.
-
Since the charity was founded in 2010, Child Action has made charitable donations of over £350K (to 31 October 2017) to support the education and personal development of underprivileged slum and street children in India.
OUR VISION
-
In India we give children the chance to escape lifelong poverty by providing access to educational and personal development opportunities through the work carried out by three grassroots charities.
-
In the UK we give children the opportunity to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills through lessons in global development issues via our online resource, enterprise4change
OUR STRATEGY
-
To support projects which offer educational or holistic self-development opportunities for children living in challenging conditions in India.
-
To develop social responsibility and core life values in Key Stage 2 students here in the UK through our interactive learning project Enterprise 4 Change.
-
To have a breadth of financing from major donors, corporations, trusts and foundations and fundraising activities by individual supporters and school children.
OUR CORE COMPETENCIES
-
Our knowledge – we support the holistic development of children in India and the UK, which focuses on confidence, self-belief and critical thinking skills.
-
Our size – we are small and committed to supporting just three organisations with great diligence. Our intimate approach allows us to understand our projects extensively and to provide detailed reports and updates for our supporters.
-
Our relationships – we have resilient relationships with our grassroots charities, Toybank, Doorstep and Apnalaya. This enables us to work closely with them on strategy, resource allocation and impact assessment, to ensure maximum impact of funds raised from donors.
-
Our roots - Child Action was founded by Seema Sharma, who places great value on the opportunities that education has given her, and maintains a commitment to providing opportunities for young people.
